Hello all my DeviantArt followers, if any. I have a question to purpose to all of you. I'm going to be purchasing a new camera for the photography and art program that I'm going into. Yes, I know.. whoop-dee-do, why do I need to buy a new camera? Well I'd use the one I have if I could. The program requires an 18-50mm lens camera, which I do not currently own. Mine is 7.5-17.1mm, kinda lame, eh? So I was wondering if anyone had good suggestions for large optical zoom point and shoot cameras, such as Canon Powershots or the like, or if I should just get a DSLR and get it over with.

The two I was looking at were the entry-level DSLR cameras by Canon and Nikon. The one being the Canon EOS Rebel T3 or the Nikon D3100. both have a low purchase price, but one being more higher than the other because of some small specs and the only option of a stabalised lens, this one being the Nikon. I've read a few reviews of both and I just want some personal advice from those who may have used them, etc. So if you can help me pick out a camera, doesn't even have to be these two, I'll listen to other suggestions, I would greatly appreciate the help.
